About

Life begins at the end of our comfort zone.  This blog is about an experience at the edge of this comfort zone.

It wasn’t love at first sight when I initially came to Estonia in winter 2001.  Definitely not.  But slowly Estonia and its people with their intriguing yet impossible language started winning my heart.  One visit followed the next one.  At some point I lost count of the many stamps in my passport.  (Yes, this wasn’t European Union territory at the time.)

And after what started out as a rather spontaneous four-month time-out in autumn 2014 – no quarter-life crisis or anything of that sort – I have chosen to stay on…  This blog hosts thoughts and observations sparked by my life here.  I called it RUKKILILLED because the rukkilill (cornflower) is a treasured Estonian national symbol.
